Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s continuous efforts to improve peace and order in Uttar Pradesh over the last seven years are expected to have a big impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The absence of a single riot in the last seven years of the government led by CM Yogi Adityanath, the guaranteed safety of women and traders, effective action against mafias and gangsters, and significant transformations in Uttar Pradesh’s security landscape since 2017 are all expected to play a critical role in assisting voters in making their choices during the Lok Ssbha elections.

Why Yogi Won 2022 Assembly Elections?

It is worth noting that the state’s law and order dynamics also helped CM Yogi win the 2022 Assembly elections. As the 2024 general elections approach, this same issue could have a huge impact on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s drive to win a large number of seats, particularly a resounding victory, potentially gaining as many as 80 seats for the third time in a row.

Uttar Pradesh has not seen a single case of communal violence in the last seven years, thanks to the stringent enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals, according to the statement.

Yogi Government’s Action Against Criminal Activities

From November 2019 to November 2023, illegal assets worth over Rs 3723 crore belonging to 68 identified mafia dons and gang members were confiscated and destroyed. Furthermore, measures were taken to seize assets valued at over Rs 4268 crore from various other mafia groups under the Gangster Act from January 2021 to October 2023. Over the period from March 2017 to November 2023, a total of 22,301 cases were registered under the Gangster Act, resulting in the arrest of 70,879 accused individuals, said the official statement further.

Furthermore, assets totaling more than Rs 120 billion were seized. During this time, 192 offenders were murdered in encounters, and 5800 were injured.

What Is Current Situation Of Crime In Uttar Pradesh?

Crime in Uttar Pradesh has decreased significantly since 2016, and this trend is expected to continue until 2023. According to a statement from the Uttar Pradesh administration, dacoity has fallen by more than 87%, robbery by more than 72%, murder by 40%, kidnapping for ransom by 68%, and rape by 24%.

Similarly, considerable preventive action was implemented between 2016 and 2023, with a 4% increase under the Arms Act, a 26% increase under the NDPS Act, a 23% increase under the Gangster Act, a 31% increase under the Goonda Act, and a 32% increase under the Excise Act.

Prioritising Women’s Safety

CM Yogi has prioritised women’s safety, and major efforts have been undertaken throughout the state to achieve this goal. A total of 1698 Anti-Romeo teams have been formed, with 21,422 incidents reported across the state. Women’s support desks have been established in all 1584 police stations across the state, as have Women Cyber Crime Cells in 18 zonal offices.

Notably, from March 2022 to November 2023, 12855 accused were convicted for crimes against women and under the POCSO Act. The death sentence was imposed on 16 accused, life imprisonment on 1298, more than ten years of imprisonment on 3422, and up to ten years of imprisonment on 8119.
To reduce crime against women and children and create awareness about their safety, 10,378 women’s beats were established in 1518 police stations around the state, with a total deployment of 15,130 female personnel. During their patrols, women beat personnel resolved 63,175 complaints and assisted 60,790 victims with counselling.

Furthermore, the Women and Child Safety Organisation (WCSO) was formed by combining 1090, Mahila Samman Cell, and Police Women Assistance Cell. In addition, 1090 was connected with UP 112, and 80 new terminals and data analytics centres were constructed.
