However, this phrase cannot be used as a shield for harassment and violence. A video has been going viral and circulating on the internet where a few individuals can be seen forcefully applying colours on a Muslim family amid loud slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’. Despite being asked by the family to not apply colours, they are still doing so and seeing this as harassment, Bijnor Police has arrested an individual and has also detained three juveniles in the matter. Muslim Family Harassed On Holi, Video Goes Viral
As mentioned earlier, a video has been circulating on the internet where a Muslim family is passing through an area on a motorcycle in Bijnor when individuals begin applying colours on their faces and also throw water on them. This incident took place in the Dhampur area of the city on March 20 and amid loud slogns of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’.

Bijnor Police Takes Action; Arrests 1, Detains 3 Others
Responding to this incident promptly, Bijnor Police arrested an individual and detained three other juveniles in connection with this matter. A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC and CrPC including wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt and assaulting a woman among others. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Neeraj Jaduan has said in a video statement, “The Bijnor Police has taken cognizance of a video that is going viral on social media. In this viral video, a few men are harassing and forcefully applying colours on a family that was going on a motorcycle. The Bjnor Police is identifying these men with the help of CCTV footage.”
SSP Neeraj Jaduan further said, “Circle Officer (CO) Dhampur has been instructe to personally reach out to the affected family and fire an FIR after receiving a complaint from them and ensure investigation is conducted under his supervision…” Warning the people to not harass anyone during Holi, the SSP said, “Please don’t apply colours on people forcibly. Police will take action on anyone who breaks the law.”
